Are Clinical Drug Trials safe?

I'm looking into joining a clinical drug trial to test a treatment for hayfever what are the chances of it being dangerous?
Answer:
That is the risk you take! It is very rare that things do go wrong, and you may be on the placebo drug without knowing it.You have to sign the form to say you are taking this risk - good luck!
Sometimes it can be very dangerous. People were hurt in trials last year. You are after all volunteering to be a Guinea pig for them.
Well there is always some risk or it wouldn't be a trial. Someone died last year doing drug trials.
Whatever you do don't do it NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO...
they do risk assments for them but the outcome is never predictable which is why they have the tests
No one knows, that is why they call them Trials. Good luck
Yes they can be dangerous as the products are tested before
they get a license.
thats the idea-your taking the chances before its available to everyone else-there are always risks and this is why p#eople are usually paid for doing this-my aunt has been on lots of drug trials it was an easy way to make cash but of she knew of the risks-if there was no danger it wouldnt be on trial
The risks are quite low, but it can go very wrong indeed. Check out this new story:http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/health/480809...
BBC NEWS | Health | Q%26A: Drug trials
Chances, I would think, are minimal. However, just remember the recent drug trials and how that all went wrong

Are cigars addictive and which is worse cigaret or cigar and why?

well im just curious.
Answer:
Anti-tobacco people brainwash people about the dangers of cigars. It is true that they are addictive and dangerous, but no where near as much as cigarettes. One-to-one, a cigar is much worse, but most cigar smokers don't smoke as much as cigarette smokers. A pack-a-day smoker is equal to someone who smokes 2-3 cigars a day, which is a lot. Most cigar smokers smoke 2-3 a week, some are more like 2-3 a month. Any statistics on the dangers of cigars are based on the 2-3 a day numbers. Another aspect of cigar smoking is the inhalation. Cigarette smokers inhale the smoke into their lungs where as cigar smokers only bring the smoke into their mouth. This results in less lung cancer, but higher risks in mouth and throat cancer. The cigar itself also comes into contact with your mouth and that also causes cancer. Cigarette smokers smoke for the nicotine rush. Cigar smokers smoke more for the experience. We enjoy the smell and taste of fine tobaccos along with the relaxation that comes with it. But to just answer your question, yes cigars are addictive, and one-to-one, they are worse. The addiction comes from the nicotine which is in the tobacco and the "worse" factor comes from the carcinogens in the smoke. Cigars are worse simply because there is more tobacco which has more nicotine and creates more smoke with carcinogens. However, most cigar smokers don't smoke frequently enough to become highly addicted to nicotine nor do they smoke as much as cigarette smokers which introduces fewer carcinogens into the body.
I guess technically a cigar could be addictive, but you are getting far less chemicals in a cigar and since you don't inhale you are getting a way lower dose of nicotine.
yes cigars are addictive %26 they are both bad- a cigar is worse because it doesnt have a filter like a cigarette- but they are both unhealthy
cigars are addictive
they are also more harmfull than cigarets. its something like a cigar holds ablout as much tobaco as 11 cigarets. so you would be causing more damage to your lungs in a shorter amount of time.
I imagine cigarettes would be more addictive, as they're generally smoked more frequently than cigars. The frequency with which a drug is used influences its potential for addiction; the more you use it, the more likely you are to be hooked. I used to be a cigar smoker, but only casually, and I never had problems living without nicotine. On the other hand, Sigmund Freud (who is often portrayed with a cigar in his hand) died of cancer of the jaw; to the end of his life, he couldn't stop smoking even as it was killing him.Note: several other people answering the question have said that cigarettes contain nicotine; cigars do also. Nicotine is the tobacco plant's way of fighting off insects. As a kid, I remember being able to buy nicotine at gardening stores as a way of killing of insects.
Yes cigarettes are VERY addictive. Nicotine stimulates areas of your brain that are stimulated during cocaine addiction. Dopamine is released after every time that a person smokes and thus causes addiction. Cigarettes are bad for your lung and esophagus and are just bad all together. Cigars are worse they cause mouth cancers if smoked on regular basis. You are not suppose to inhale when smoking a cigar so cigars dont cause lung cancer as frequently as cigarettes.
Not good ones, they just like the look. With a cigar you can get mouth cancer from the tar as long as you do not en hail. Cigarettes are a lot worse, because you can get addicted to them through nicatean, and get lung cancer along with throat and mouth, but not as common.
They are both cancer sticks. How attractive is that? I've seen pictures of a person who had a hole in his cheek from oral cancer. Whether it's snuff, a cigarette, or a cigar, nicotine is bad stuff. Just say No!

Are canker sores herpes?

CANKER SORES not COLD SORES!
Answer:
No. Canker sores are NOT herpes (cold sores). Cold sores 鈥?also called fever blisters 鈥?are quite different from canker sores, a condition people sometimes associate them with. Cold sores are caused by the herpes simplex virus, and they're contagious. Canker sores, which aren't contagious, are ulcers that occur in the soft tissues inside your mouth, places where cold sores don't occur.
http://health.yahoo.com/topic/skincondit...
no, they are generally caused by acid indigestion or teeth rubbing on the inside of your cheek.
Generally, no.However oral herpes can present as sores in the mouth (not just cold sores on the lips and facial area).

Are Canker Sores a virus and contagious?

Not cold sore!
Answer:
Canker sores are NOT viruses nor are they contagious. They are little sores on the inside of your mouth caused by stress, genetics, allergies, poor nutrition, or by repeated friction on a certain area.
I know they are a virus and well, how do people get viruses? From other people!

Are cancerous moles supposd to be raised and feel weird?

Answer:
Unfortunately, cancerous moles can do many things. Raised, definitely. Feel weird? Hmm... Sometimes.
That is a sign that they are cancerous; make an appointment with a dermatologist ASAP plz!
Cancerous lesions aren't always raised -- they're usually inconsistent in color, asymmetrically shaped, and have funky borders.
Not all moles that are raised are cancerous.
Cancerous moles will have a uneven edge around it and blue or purplish in color and bleeds or scales alot.
not at all,
http://images.search.yahoo.com/search/im...
http://www.skincancerinfo.com/sectionf/w...when in doubt, have a doctor check it out.
Basically, if your mole is bigger than the width of a pencil eraser, or it has an unusual texture or color, it's good to check it out. Bleeding is also a bad sign.Check out the link below for more info.

Are brain tumars genetic?

My uncle died of a brain tumar 3 months after finding out he had it.
Answer:
some tumors could certainly be of genetic origin.however, exposure to certain toxic materials at work,
labs, even schools can start some cells to grow at irregular rates. tumors of different types can grow at different rates and to
much different sizes.there are genetic screenings available, some quite expensive to see if you carry a gene for a tumor of a specific type.i would try to find out what type of tumor your uncle died of,
and then, if you feel it necessary, do the blood or tissue test to see if you have that gene.
joe
Tumors in general are not genetic, however it has been shown that people who get a certian type of cancer (like skin) the kids of that person seem to have a higher risk.
No not really...although your risks may increase a small amount if someone in your family has had a certain type of cancer it does not mean you are going to get it!Brain Cancer is a very rare cancer which makes it even less likely it is genetic!

Are Blood Pressure Medicines in Pharmacies, dept. stores on target?

How close to clinic cuffs?
Answer:
Your question is somewhat confusing, because you first ask about medicines and then cuffs (two different things). I'm guessing you're more concerned about the cuffs, so I'll try to answer that.As Harmony mentioned, size does matter. I recommend you ask the pharmacist to help you find the right match, both for the cuff and for the features and price you are looking for. You should be able to find something for about $50. Avoid the wrist cuffs. The standard place to take BP is above the elbow. It is said that these BP monitors require regular calibration. I haven't seen any evidence to indicate that. But just to be sure, you can take yours in with you when you see your doctor. Compare the readings that they get with their own machines vs. your own readings with your drug store model. They should be generally comparable, within a certain measurement error tolerance. There are several sources of BP variation that have nothing to do with the instrument used. These include:Body position, time of day, resting duration, and all of the other factors that actually control your BP. There is also something known as "white coat syndrome" which may cause your BP to be elevated in a doctor's office. To get a true "resting" reading, sit in a chair with your feet on the floor. Rest for a few minutes first. The preferable time to take your BP is in the morning, before the pressures and foods of the day get going.I hope this helps.
It depends on how well the cuffs fit you. The problem with monitors in stores is that they have a one size fits all cuff. If you are smaller or larger than normal it won't fit well and the reading will be off.
They are prescription drugs and will need to be filled at the pharmacy nearest you. Your Dr. wil need to give you a prescription.
walmart has $4.00 blood pressure medicines, you will need a doctors prescription, no need for insurance and $4.00 is for a month supply

Are blood clots hereditary?

what are they caused from?
Answer:
yes, blood clotting problems are hereditary. I have a clotting problem (they ran tests after my stroke and it was dxed as a genetic muttation). Other hereditary clotting problems ar F V Leiden, APS, etc. below are links to FV Leiden and a blood clotting support group I frequent. hope this helps. If you are really worried you might have one, go to your MD and ask for a script to have a doppler done on your ankle (it's a sonogram--perfectly painless) %26 it can tell you right away if you have a clot. good luck.
yes i think so
no
By "blood clots", I assume you mean deep vein thomboses (DVTs)?
They can be...though most cases of DVT's are not. The largest risk for a DVT is immobility, such as being stuck in a hospital bed, a couch at home after surgery, or a long plane or car ride. This immobility means that blood does not get "pumped" though your legs very well (this pumping is facilitated by your calf muscles contracting) and thus blood sits and coagulates forming a clot...if this dislodges and goes to your lungs, it causes a pulmonary embolus (PE) which can be fatal.
Other major risks for DVTs are cancer and certain deep IV's that can be used in hospitals.
If you would like to know more about DVT's let me know.In followup to your description I'd suggest a few things.
One, was your grandfather diagnosed with a "hereditary" blood clotting problem, such examples are: factor V leiden mutations, prothrombin 20210, deficiencies of proteins C or S that help dissolve blood clots, or antithrombin III mutations? There are others, but these are the major ones...if any of these names ring a bell, it deserves futher investigation.
Second, your description of your ankle being swollen is not typical of a presentation for a DVT at risk of breaking off "embolizing"(the ones that you will ned to see a doctor about and will need to be treated). Classically we look for a WHOLE swollen leg (like up to the knee at least) as compared to your other leg. If you do have a clot, it would pose a risk for embolizing only if it extended into the thigh region...and thus I would expect swelling of your whole leg to your knees, not localized to your ankles.
Other things to consider in your case would be a skin infection (cellulitis) ankle trauma (sprain) or trauma to a bursa in that region. Needless to say, if your swelling continues to extend up your leg, or you develop symptoms of a PE- sudden difficulty breathing with chest pain or coughing up blood, see a physician right away.
Finally, if your "appendages" turn purple, try looking this up: "Reynaud's phenomina". see if it applies to you...and if it does, get a primary care physician and talk to them about it. Good luck!

Are all porn stars demanded to take hiv test?

Answer:
probably not, I read a story once about a pornstar catching herpes, and some of her friends caught AIDS. I can't remember the site. It was very intresting you should google it
i believe so, and if they every test positive or have an "inconclusive" result they are put on a national registry made just for porn stars. to protect themselves and others.
it probably depends on the company
NO. Many studios require it. Many studios will not work with performers who have done condomless or bareback films. But there are those who do not require it. They feel that it is a known risk.

Are all people who have had problems with alcohol alcoholics?

are all problem drinkers alcoholics?
Answer:
No.An alcoholic is someone addicted to alcohol, most people (80% by some estimates) who start having problems quit or learn to moderate."One recent study found that 80% of all alcoholics who recover for a year or more do so on their own, some after being unsuccessfully treated. When a group of these self-treated alcoholics was interviewed, 57% said they simply decided that alcohol was bad for them. Twenty-nine percent said health problems, frightening experiences, accidents, or blackouts persuaded them to quit. Others used such phrases as "Things were building up" or "I was sick and tired of it." Support from a husband or wife was important in sustaining the resolution."
Treatment of Drug Abuse and Addiction -- Part III, The Harvard Mental Health Letter, Volume 12, Number 4, October 1995.
Depends on what they like to do with it.
If they miss their mouth a lot (like Airplane, i'm staeling this 'comedy' part of my 'funny' response from airplane) then they aren't alcoholics, they're just funny. If they have a drink and explode then they're just weird.
If they can't stop drinking and generally dont have an 'earliest time to start drinking' because they're never sober, then they are an alcoholic!
End
Probably, but not necessarily. Some people are allergic to alcohol, others just drink to excess and act stupid. Some really get addicted. It is a toxic poison and affects people differently at different levels due to varying body chemistry.
if you put those words together "problem and drinkers" you have your answer. any experiences i have had around people who drink there are always problems and for some people with a family of drinkers they seem almost destined to be alcoholics. i got lucky and stopped the cycle in my family by not drinking EVER. but it took many years of me watching my mom and grandpa drink to get drunk. very gross. i say to a lot of people "break the cycle of dependency in you own families and the rest of the world will follow" only takes one to start the ball rolling and i have done just that by staying away of what i know will hook me in. dunno if this helped you but i sure did help me to say it lmao. have a good one. =)
Drunk is just a common name for alcoholic.Any one who consistently gets drunk and is a "problem drinker" is an alcoholic. All hypoglycemics are not alcoholics, but " all alcoholics are hypoglycemics". Alcohol is the most concentrated processed sugar there is.
"Problems with alcohol" can range from a drunk driving arrest, to fighting with strangers in pubs, on over to having a spouse packing your suitcases, or waking up in a strange motel with a total stranger beside you in the bed. Stuff like that is a fair indication that you might be drinking alcoholically - i.e., drinking on beyond the fun and into the crazy zone. An alcoholic can't stop with one drink...an alcoholic does stuff behind booze that sober they would never do. Losing a job because you come back from lunch drunk...right. You can be a once a year crazy or an every weekend crazy or find yourself needing a shot or a beer first thing in the morning to "feel better". If big sections of your life are being adversely affected because of booze, if you drink when you really shouldn't [imagine a company dinner %26 making a big sloppy mess of yourself with the boss's spouse] and if you get really really angry with anyone who tries to "talk to you about your drinking"...you might be a member of the tribe. In the Alcoholics Anonymous website is a list of questions related to the above...check off how many 'Yes' answers you get. Getting ripped at big parties a few times a year...maybe not an alky. Hiding a bottle of whiskey from your spouse so you can get some relief and comfort without their ragging on you? Good possibility you are. Percentage-wise, that is. If your life is being harmed, changed, messed up, or out of control because of your drinking...and you continue to drink because you need to? Charter member!
I suggest you contact www.aa.org. They have lots of information on the disease of alcoholism. If a person has no control over the amount of alcohol they consume once they start drinking, he/she is probably an alcoholic.
My father was sucessful in business all his life, but not in my mother's marrige to him or his childrens lives because he was a "drinker" which equals an alcoholic. His parents and theirs before him were also ones who either drank daily or each weekend.and not beer.the good stuff in shots..the "old" classy way to drink. Or high class mixed drinks. All my siblings including myself drink alcohol mixed drinks or booze .. "over the rocks" for some. One out of six of us ended up as a severe alcoholic even though it seems she is sober most of the day because drinking a bottle on the rocks and starting a second bottle by mid noon time isn't "normal" ... this is an alcoholic and I'm sure "wasting" her vital organs.I have been in the same marriage with one man and we are raising the last of our six children. We also have two Grandchildren in the family with our oldest being married. My husband nor I have an alcohol "problem" because we don't drink on every weekend, or monthly. In the last three years we might have had six or seven "mixed drinks" each, together while out for dinner.Any one who has to control a problem HAS A PROBLEM ALREADY.Think of it this way..If I have a food problem then I have a weight problem..which means I have to "CONTROL SOMETHING". Someone who doesn't have "anything to control" doesn't have a problem and is most likely in line and on a healthy path to longer life with better quality.I am 48 with no known health problems to date. No drugs needed including high blood pressure meds. My family who drinks more then me is all in poor health and on expensive medications that cost hundreds per month. And just think, I'm not the youngest of my siblings. Failed jobs and marriages with their children making poor choices in life too.For you to ask this question ... yes the problem is already there. Just remember what seems like a great party now or how deep problems might seem to cause people to want to drink ... your health won't allow a high level of drinking to always continue and the drinker will pay too much for their past. I wish you luck

Are all cocaine users thin?

I know someone who acts like a cocaine addict. Including the lack of money. The only thing is that my research shows that users are thin. The person I know is overweight.
Answer:

Appendicitis?

I've have been feeling constipated but don't have a fever or vomiting... but feeling bloated and now kidneys are burning... i did feel a pop.
Answer:
Beleive me, if your appendix popped you would be in excruciating pain/dead. Once it pops, it hurts, and can cause major damage. You may have a bladder, or kidney infection. Cranberry Juice, or Cranberry pills can help clear this up. Although, i would say it would be best to see a doctor ASAP. If you begin getting bad pain, vomiting, or a fever, i would say get to the emergency room. If you are feeling constipated try milk of magnesia, or prune juice. You also may want to try normal milk (always goes right through me) or mineral oil. If you are VERY constipated, then Magnesium Citrate is an option, that will clear you RIGHT out
NO APPENDICITIIS!! possibly a kidney stone stuck in your uretur.Check to see if you are tender halfway between your belly button and your rt pelvic bone, that is McBurney's point where your appendix is, it will be very sore if you have it!Nate RDMS
If you had appendicitis, the pain would be almost unbearable. Constipation can make you feel miserable. I would suggest prune juice, milk of magnesia, or some other laxative. If you don't have success, call your doctor. You might become impacted, and that's not fun at all.
Unless you are feeling very intense, sharp, stabbing pain in your lower right abdomen then its probably not appendicitis. If your appendix was to burst, as mine did, you would know immediately that something was REALLY wrong. You would almost immediately get a high fever and vomitting along with an overwhelming feeling that you were very ill. I doubt that there is a "pop" involved.
If you are in pain go to the E.R., but it doesnt sound like appendicitis!
it is common for people with appendicitis to experience "rebound pain." Push in where you appendix is (lower right abdominal, horizontal to the navel and under the nipple). You should experience little or no pain. Then let go. If youre screaming in pain, its appendicitis.
It does sound like you're constipated and you might have urine infection or a stone (although stones are unusual at a young age and if you are normal weight for your height). Go and see your doctor and take a urine sample with you. They can dip the urine and check for infection then and there. They will also give you talored advise for constipation. You do need to see a doctor as if a urine infection continues too long, you can damage your kidneys. That's not pretty.No. 1 cause of constipation: lack of fluid
No. 2 cause of constipation: lack of exerciseNurse Emma
You are dehydrated. Drink a bunch of WATER.

Appendicitis?

Which side is your appendix on and how would you know if you had it?
Answer:
On the right side. Sharp pain in the lower right abdominal area. Don't wait too long or it can burst and you can have severe complications.Had mine removed last minute and the surgeon said that if I had waited one more day I could have died.
The main symptom of appendicitis is abdominal pain. The pain is at first not confined to one spot. The pain is so difficult to pinpoint that when asked to point to the area of the pain, most people indicate the location of the pain with a circular motion of their hand around the central part of their abdomen. A second, common, early symptom of appendicitis is loss of appetite which may progress to nausea and even vomiting. Nausea and vomiting also may occur later due to intestinal obstruction. It's on your lower right side
It's on your lower right side. You will definitely no when you've 'had it'. You will have incredible pain in your abdominal region, vomitting and fever. If not treated quickly the appendix could burst and poison you.
Your appendix is located in the lower right area of your abdomen. The real symptom is pain. That might not sound helpful, but it's the first sign, and not just like a stomach ache, you'll really feel it.
The appendix is on the right side in the lower abdomen near the junction of the large and small intestines. Classically, appendicitis begins with mid-belly pain that migrates to the right lower quarter of the abdomen. The belly becomes progressively more tender and rigid, with peak tenderness often at McBurney's point, a point three-quarters between the belly button and the crest of the right hip bone (more accurately, the anterior superior spine of the iliac crest). You are not only not hungry, you feel nauseated and may vomit. By this time you want to see a doctor, and your belly hurts with each bump the car encounters.Sometimes the diagnosis is very easy to make by history and physical exam alone, but often the symptoms are less classic and various tests are made to increase the accuracy of diagnosis before surgery is performed.
It's on your right side, but the pain can be generalized in the center or on either side. In one quickie test you can use to see if it might be appendicitis, you poke yourself in the spot that is painful - putting pressure there with 2 fingers. If it hurts more to take the pressure off than to put it into that area, then it's possible yo do have appendicitis.
There are other structures in your body in that area which could also be causing you pain such as you ileocecal valve.
Appendicitis is the inflammation of Vermiform Appendix,
located commonly on the right side of abdomen, near the junction of small and large intestines.Even at that place its position is variable. Rarely it is located on the left side of the abdomen.
The most common symptom is the deep, dull pain, which in classic pattern starts in the upper abdomen(epigastrium) initially and then gets radiated and localized to the right lower abdomen(known as MacBurney's point--located at the, junction of inner two-thirds and lateral one-third on a line drawn from umbilicus to right anterior tip of hip bone).
In non-classical type the pain may have diverse presentation and can present from any place of the abdomen.
This pain may also present with nausea, vomiting, low grade fever.
In appendicitis vomiting always proceeds pain.
Till date there is no clear cut test to diagnose appendicitis; It is only the experience of the consulting doctor to label a person as a case of acute appendicitis. His clinical assessment is supplemented with a number of diagnostic modalities.
My best advice, to any one having abdominal pain, is never underestimate it and consult a doctor immediately. In medical terms abdomen is named Pandora's Box.

Appendectomy issues?

My boyfriend had a laparoscopic appendectomy over three weeks ago. It was perforated and then burst. He was in the hospital for four days and then released. He was told to take 2 weeks off of work. However, he was feeling better and returned to work a week early. He was feeling fine until Tuesday of last week. He has then experienced chills, possible fevers and tightening of muscles. I think he's got something really wrong with him, but, his doctor just told him to take vitamins and drink fluids and rest. And, that he had gone back to work too early and should have listened. Should we be more alarmed than this? He's feeling a little better today but still. The doctor ran some blood tests on him but told us he wouldn't call if it was fine. I'm worried and he's being tough guy. What to do, anybody got ideas on what's going on?
The area where his surgery had been is a little swollen again, too.
Answer:
Well he should have listened to the Doctor's instructions.
Doctors tell you these things cause they don't want to see you again in the hospital with complications.
Did the doctor prescribe antibiotics? If he did, did your boyfriend take them as directed?
I hope so, other wise he could end up with an infection.
Abdominal surgeries are serious even though he wasn't opened up all the way.
But so far Sounds like he will be ok.
Next time LISTEN TO THE DOCTOR.
They do know things you don't.

Apendiceitis(docs plz answer).PLEASE HELP!?

What are some signs that you have apendicitis(I know I spelled it wrong).
My side has been hurting alot latly.
Please give me some advice
Answer:
The "classic" presentation for appendicitis is pain that starts in the middle of your stomach (bellybutton area) then migrates to the Right lower quadrant of your abdomen-just inside your hipbone. Usually, there will be nausea, fever, maybe diarrhea. The pain will usually just get worse and worse over a few days. If the pain is really bad and then gets "not so bad" but you feel all over worse you may have ruptured the appendix (which is as serious as it sounds). You did not say how long you had it nor how old you are. Appendicitis can present in many different variations of the above symptoms and range from mild to severe. Does it hurt if you jump up and down or if you draw your knee up to your chest then rotate it out? Does the pain change when you eat or have a bowel movement? Does it hurt to pee? could you be pregnant? (sorry this is pretty personal for the "web" but it is all things you will be asked). If you are having mild symptoms-wait and see your doctor tomorrow if you have bad Righ lower abdominal pain with fever, nausea, or diarrhea then I would consider going to the ER. They will do some tests-check your white blood count, check for other things like a bladder infection, or gallbladder problems maybe even an ultrasound or CT of your belly. If this has been going on for several days or even weeks then I would just get in with your doctor.
---%26gt;ok so here's my addendum--it sounds like something called middleschmertz pain (and I'm not even sure I'm spelling it correctly) Each month when you ovulate, your ovaries turn loose an egg-the cyst that the egg is enclosed in has to rupture that can cause pain in some women-also, then there is a small collection of fluid in the pelvis which can be irritating-also causing pain. I would bet you are not having appendicitis right now. As long as it comes and goes and does not seem to get worse over time-mention it to your doctor (or your mom) just to be sure -- NO ONE can diagnose these things over the internet! hope this helped
severe lower right quadrant pain.
temperature.
sometimes nausea.
lower right side pain can also be from ovarian problems..like a cyst on the ovary.
you really should get to an emergency room.
to be screened for appendicitis.
this could be very very serious.
you will not get the medical help you need on ByeDr.com.
The pain is usually accompanied by a low fever, and the area should be tender to the touch. Regardless, if you are really concerned you need to consult a health prfessional, appendicitis is common but can be deadly if not taken care of right away.
abdominal pain.

Anything to help my acid reflux?

I already take nexium for the past 1.5 years but I still get episodes at night? Is there anything I can drink before going to bed to ensure the acid wont come up!? help, i'm in serious pain.
Answer:
Sorry my friend, there is nothing more you can do. Nexium is the best medication. Raising your bed might help, also if its affecting you at night, try not eating or drinking after six. Stick to bland foods, no acidic ones (says me who just ate salami), but I know I will pay for it.If it gets worse, see your doctor for another gastroscopy.good luck!
Take a tsp of baking soda in about 4-6 oz of water along with one Tum or Rolaid. Also, raise the head of your bed about 3 or 4 inches higher than the foot. Use a couple of small blocks or bricks to raise it. Propping yourself up with pillows will not work as well as raising the head of the bed. I have dealt with the same problem for quite some time.
if /you/ have/ not been/ checked lately/ go to gastroenternoligst/they/ will/ do /endoscopy /and /see /if medicine/ needs/ changed /or dosage /adjusted/
My wife was on nexium and has used Prilosec OTC for the past 2 years. While the Prilosec kept the pain away, we knew there was still the potential for long-term issues if we did not reduce the acid build-up. Zeolites have been used for hundreds of years in Asian, Indian, and Russian health and wellness. Visit www.ZeoliteInfo.com for background. Liquid Zeolite passively removes heavy metals and toxins from the body, helping to restore a healthy alkaline (instead of acidic) pH balance. This is key for acid reflux sufferers. She has been using 'Natural Cellular Defense' liquid zeolite for three weeks now and the results are very promising. We introduced the liquid zeolite to a close friend with nightime pain like yourself, and he is very encouraged after his first week on the product. www.RemoveMyToxins.com has more detailed information on Natural Cellular Defense.

Anyone, please clarify me with thyroid cancer?

my brother was diagnosed with ectopic growth of thyroid tissues all over his body blocking his spine which paralyzed him waist down. He was treated with radioactive iodine(RAI) and recovered, walk on his own for two or more months, then it happened again. Now he's bedridden and were trying to battle bedsores. was it really thyroid tissues? how can this tissues be not in their proper place? has this something to do with genes? was this acquired at birth? and why is RAI so expensive? I was adviced that if we can have another dose of RAI we might totally erradicted the tissues and recover my brother...
Answer:
I am not a medical doctor nor an expert in this rare condition. I do medical physics research and do know about radiation therapy, however, so here's my best attempt to answer your questions.
The problem actually occurs *before* birth. Thyroid tissue can grow where it doesn't belong (which is what "ectopic" means) due to problems when we are still embryos. Imagine all the different tissues that later turn into different organs all lying next to each other, growing and moving into position, so unfortunately sometimes they end up where they shouldn't. Most cases of ectopic thyroid affect the throat, such as the thyroid growing into the base of the tongue.
The thyroid gland loves iodine, which it uses to make thyroid hormone. Yet no other part of your body can use iodine. This unusual fact makes it possible to use radioactive iodine to kill thyroid tissue. It's like a heat seeking missile, goes straight to the thyroid and nowhere else. That's why it is so effective and yet causes no side effects. Nothing is perfect, however. That means that in some people (as much as 25%), some thyroid tissue survives and grows back. That's why repeat treatment may be necessary, sometimes even 3 times.
As for the cost, well I guess that's a question for the drug and insurance companies. As you can imagine, it's not cheap to make, transport, store, and handle anything that is radioactive.
Good luck to your brother and your family.
I had thyroid cancer but much different to your brother. It spread only to a lymph node, and I had both the lymph node and the thyroid surgically removed. When thyroid cancer spreads to other organs it still thyroid cells.I think Radioactive iodine needs to be ship from one of the few places it is made. Shipping it can be expensive. People with cancer may need several treatments to get kill all the thyroid cells. I had to go on a low iodine diet before treatment, so the thyroid cells absorb the radioactive iodine and kill it. Thyroid tissue is the only tissue that makes use of iodine.

Anyone, can u tell Cough remedies and Asthma Remedies and also sore throat remedies. Its really troubling me.?

Hey every1. can u pls help me get this cough away and this asthma.its so hard to breath and my throat hurts like hell.pls.
Answer:
Coughing can be treated by getting something called Guaiffenesin. You should get the DM version -- it has dextromethorphan -- a cough suppressant. The sore throat may be helped by gargling with salt-water. If that doesn't work, try some chlorseptic spray.Asthma is treated with inhaled medications, some short-acting and some long-acting. In the first class are albuterol, pirbuterol, and metoproterenol. In the second class are salmeterol, beclomethasone, and fluticasone.
Pay a visit at the nearest chemist.
There are just to many things out there to give one answer on this, not without an examination.
I take nebulizer treatments with several types of solutions, these make my throat sore in time, drying the membranes out. I try and take something for this at the same time. Try "Hacks" cough drops, these work well for me while I'm on treatments and keep my throat moist. If nothing else works, see your doctor.
Sore throat - gargle with Vodka. I'm serious, it has almost magical properties. Three times a day for 2 days normally does it.Cough - Seneca (of ammonia ? ) elixer - vile stuff but stops a persistent cough. Ask your pharmacist. It is an ancient cure, cheap too. They don't push it because it tastes terrible, there is no profit, and it works, so you don't have to come back (again, no profit).Asthma - not a cure, (but you don't get attacks anymore so what's the difference ?) - Learn the buteyko breathing method. Of course, It takes effort, and taking medication is easier. I think it's worth the effort.
When you are having trouble breathing go into bathroom and shut door turn on hot water in shower and breathe the steam for a bit (don't get in the water though) It also depends on where you are in the world but i am in Oz and for a cough I take brondecon elixir this one will help you STOP coughing and the brondecon expectorant will help get all the phlegm up(sorry to be graphic) Try warm drinks for the sore throat like a honey and lemon drink or my cup of tea but that won't help coz you can't come here -sorry-

Anyone with ulcerative colitis?

Ive had ulcerative colitis for about 4 years now and im still struggling to get it into remission. Ive had steroids - prednisolone and they seemed to help but only to a certain point as i still had a real urgency to go to the loo about three times a day. I couldn't tolerate azathioprine as they made me too tired and weak. Iv also tried asacol, pentasa and now im on colazide but all three have given me diarrhoea so i stopped taking them. Ive only taken one dose of colazide and they have given me diarrhoea but im not sure wether to carry on taking them as it may be possible that the diarrhoea could clear up and i could start improving.
Has anyone else had worsening diarrhoea with these drugs and did it improve as you carried on taking it?
Also, has anyone else tried any other drugs that worked e.g.enemas, as i really do not know what to do.
Thanks and feel free to email me if you want to chat about it.
Answer:
Hi, my heart goes out to you as I too suffer with UC. I have had it for about 2 years now. I have tried Prednisolone too, but I have found no medicines really work for me, at three different times during the illness I have been so sick and losing so much blood that I was admitted to hospital. At that point they gave me enemas, I found they gave relief for about 12 hours but then the blood would come back. I have found altering my diet helped a little - I cut out all dairy and fast/fried foods, which helped a bit. I also take four fish oil tablets every day and drink a protein mix when I have a flare-up to make up for all the lost blood.
Hang in there. Good luck I wish you all the best :o)
I've never taken any prescription drugs for colitis but I have found that eating a lower fat diet helps control my symptoms. The foods that seem to make my colitis flare up worst are pork, beef or any fatty cut of meat but especially pork. Also, if I consume too much fiber it makes my stoumach act up. It's weird because I flare up if I have either eaten too much or too little fiber. I find that it's best to get most of my fiber from vegetables and some fruits. Sorry I couldn't be of more help to you.

Anyone with some medical experience?

I would honestly prefer answers from RNs or anyone who has a medical background. This is kind of a disgusting subject so its not for the queasy.
Well, heres the deal. I recently got quite a cold (colds in the summer suck!) and all of my other symptoms have gone away apart from the fact that I'm coughing up green mucus. Disgusting, yes, but this type of coughing up mucus has been a constant problem for me since I was seven years old, and I am 16 now. Usually its clear, but when I get sick it thickens substantially and turns a nasty green. At one point last year it came up in pink chunks. My cough is also always a very deep and thick cough no matter what. I'm off to the doctor on Wednesday, but I was hoping to get a few other opinions. Thank you for your time and consideration!
Answer:
you are not describing anything unusual about your lungs. people in general have a difficult time relating to all body fluids, blood, and physiological circumstances of the body even when its normal. coughing up colored secretions for weeks or even a month is not in itself a symptom of a disastrous disease. mucus is usually the result of the bodies immune system at work.
if you were diagnosed with cystic fibrosis, bronchiectasis, tracheal malacia, acute/chronic bronchitis, and even asthma then there is a different story to tell. but since you are referring yourself to a common cold then don't worry about the phlegm. another issue with sputum is odor. usually it doesn't smell foul, and if it does that is an important indicator but i wont try to describe it. just that since you didn't mention foul odor then you likely dont have it. if you did you'd know, and i dont mean bad breath as that is often associated with simple airway infections like colds or flues. the pink coloration: if you were talking frank appearance of blood in your secretions then that would need checking into, but may still be non threatening. some medications taken by inhalation can breakdown and discolor secretions. severely irritated airway lining sometimes bleed and repair themselves. this alone causes various colored sputum.
doctors, respiratory therapists, and even some nursing persons are skilled at identifying, quantifying, and analyzing what sputum is about. yours sounds fairly normal in that it is associated with some sort of lung/airway infection that the body and antibiotics are taking care of. perhaps (and i'm purely speculating) you had a pneumonia, didn't know it, but the doctor does and is treating it. if so then your symptoms, and the mucus takes longer to return to normal. what about since you were 7 and having this. still not significant unless again you have actually been diagnosed with a particular chronic disease. the exception to that statement lies in the fact that you could have recurrent sinus infections, allergies (even though you deny this), and asthma which over the years fits what you say is happening now.cant do long distance diagnosis but you can put together the pieces and come to a reasonable conclusion for yourself. then bring your concerns to a pulmonologist who will straighten you out on the medical issues.
It sounds as if you suffer from allergies. Coughing is the bodies way of ridding itself of excess mucous/infection. Without that function fluid would build up in the lungs. When there is a color there is an infection present. While waiting to see the doctor drink plenty of water and avoid dairy.
It's the type of bacteria causing infection of respiratory tract which impart colour to the sputum. Already you must be taking antibiotics, if a particular suits you you take one. Otherwise a broad spectrum like Doxycycline I like 'cz of its once a day dose.
Next is inhalations, like carvol or menthol or any other. You may put it in hot water %26 inhale. You didn't mention fever or breathing problem, so I think this much will give you relief.
Good luck!
Green mucus is generally associated with bronchitis and respiratory inflamation. It sounds like you have some chronic bronchitis and possibly ashma. The pink sputem is more of a cause for alarm. You may want to get tested for TB but I would say that most likely it is just a little blood from you lung tissue because of the intense amount of irritation.
Some things that you can do to help are to let it come up. Don't try to supress the cough and let it losen up in there. Stagnant mucus build up can cause pneumonia. A few other things you can do are to limit if not remove dairy from your diet when you have this issue. Dairy causes an increase in sputum production. Most of the time it doesn't bother people. You should also stay away from smoke and irritating allergens. If you know that you have a bad reaction to dust or pollen make sure your environment is clean, use an atinallergen filter on the vacum, and keep flowers only until they start to shed pollen. You may also start an excersise program and do some breathing exercises to increase lung capacity and keep the tissue used. Check out the website below!!
Good Luck!
Honestly, sound to me like allergies or Chronic Bronchitis. If you have had this awhile or even on and off, its something Chronic. I say Chronic Bronchitis because its something in your lungs that your coughing up. BUT there must be a cause, so either when you were younger you were exposed to a lung irritant or you are around an irritant alot such as second hand smoke OR its ALLERGIES! I know you said you don't have allergies, but sweetie your 16 and while you might feel you know your body, from your symptoms, my experience as a Respiratory Therapist and education it really sound like you have Chronic Broncitis from allergies. The mucus is green because its been sitting in there for a bit and started to get "moldy" or Bacterial to put it bluntly. Pink chunks would be you coughing so hard you are tearing the lining of the trachea and the mucus is getting tinged with blood.
Hello,Good question you have here! Basically you had a Common Cold (caused by a virus)! Cold's are very hard to cure because they come from a virus... your body responds by making alot of mucus to wall off the invader. It is also said that If your body is unable to fight it off. eventually it will progress to bronchitis... the cough you describe sounds as though it's gone into the airways... so I would recommend you see a doctor. He will probably order you a Z-pack for 5 days. That should clear it up.
Good Luck,
Angie R.N.

Anyone with experience on alcoholics?

It seems like everyone I know that is recovering, going to AA or not recovering tend to be a bit shady...
Is this me merely stereotyping or is there a connection somewhere?
Answer:
Very few people in AA stay sober. Their drop out rate is 95% in the first year. George Vaillant, Harvard professor, researcher, and member of AA's Board of Trustees set out to prove once and for all how wonderful AA was. He said of his findings, "Not only had we failed to alter the natural history of alcoholism, but our death rate of three percent a year was appalling."The Brandsma study showed that people exposed to AA were five times as likely to end up binge drinking as those who attempt quitting on their own.
"AA is for Quitters", what our waiter said to us last night LOL
The alcoholics will go to extremes to get more alcohol, because of cravings, and then relapse once they have it. It is not stereotyping, but it can just feel awkward. Just remember they are tryingnto recover.hope this helps, just make sure you support them and encourage them
In my experience AA lets them get out their feelings, but they have an excuse (They say alcoholism is a desease), and when you make excuses for addicts they (mostly) don't recover. THey make excuses and still drink. THen find ways to drink so that it doesn't look like they are alcoholics. You're not stereotyping. AA does not work in my experience. I hope these people aren't peopleyou care for.
As a former alcoholic, i can assure you that you are stereotyping, not all recovering alcoholics, return to the 'wagon'. Some get off and stay off, it just depends on how badly you want to recover, and how badly you want to improve your life. Its just the same as drugs, or any other 'addictive' behaviour..
yes, so I left him

Anyone with a kidney transplant been told not to swim in lakes rivers, anything outside of a chlorinated pool?

Answer:
Nobody taking the kind of strong steroids used in any type of transplant should swim in lakes or rivers. They could easily catch leptospirosis or another infection and die.
I personally haven't had a transplant of any kind, but I assume you were told so since many lakes and rivers are quite polluted, and since you body absorbs the toxins...that go to your kidneys to be processed...this would cause an overflow of stress on you kidneys that are in a weakened state already...fighting the body for acceptance, all the anti rejection drugs etc. But thats just my own thoughts. Listen to your doctors, they want whats best for you.

Anyone with a cavernoma of the left temporal lobe?

i'm curious to see what if any changes you may have noticed about yourself as time goes on. thanks.
Answer:
Mine's down in my pons not in the temporal lobe but in general the answer should be "none at all, unless it bleeds". Some do, some don't so although lots of people have cavernomas they're generally asymptomatic. It's only since MRI was invented that they're being detected when they're sitting there doing nothing. You can find out lots more about cavernomas through the web site of the Angioma Alliance[1] - or if you're in the UK we have our own web site[2].PS: my cavernoma did bleed but I'm still here. You can read about that on my own web site[3].
Any blood vessel deformity on the brain is dangerous due to the possibility of bleeding. Didn't your physician give you the option of surgically fixing this? It would be the safest thing to do.

Anyone uses dihyrocodone and diazepam or other anxiety meds for fibromyalgia?

Answer:
I would recommend that you stop. If you are not already, you will eventually become addicted to those drugs. My doctor was prescribing codeine and diazepam by the 100s. The dose just kept increasing. I was prescribed the codeine for the pain of the FM but the diazepam was not for anxiety but because it conteracts a weird side effect I get from codeine. You need to find another doctor who will help you develop other coping skills. There are other drugs out there that are less addictive. You have enough to deal with with the FM. You don't need a drug addiction problem as well. I ended up switching family doctors (because a specialist of mine for something else freaked over the lack of treatment and overprescribing that was occuring). DO NOT go cold turkey off the meds. You could give yourself seizures.

Anyone used a laser treatment for acne called an N LIght and what were the results?

Answer:
I haven't used this treatment myself as I can't afford it, however a young lady who suffered with acne for years featured on the programme this morning, no antibiotics or creams worked, and she was so depressed over it she wouldn't look in a mirror she tried Roaccutane but it actually made her skin worse when she came off it and you can't stay on this drug forever as its too dangerous, but when she had laser treatment there were brilliant results, her skin is now clear and though she has to go for the odd extra treatment it has removed her spots and increased her self confidence, unfortunately its not yet available on the NHS (wish it was) and only a few clinics perform this procedure, the main one in the UK is in London, which is rather too far away for myself, I've had acne since the age of 11 and still have it at 24, despite what some people will lead you to believe there is no "miracle cream/antibiotic" especially from your doctor, it depends on the individual but often medications prescribed by your dermatologist don't have much effect as they are only targeting the symptom of spots not the cause, I've tried lots of so called spot removal creams in chemists such as Boots and they have had zero effect as my condition is so severe they are only aimed at individuals with much milder acne or just the odd spot, they are often relatively expensive and a waste of money and contain nasty ingrediants that can actually make your skin worse/redder, I know from experience, i'm sure you've found this out yourself if you have the opportunity to try N light, go for it , unlike Roaccutane it has no major side effects and is virtually harmless, obviously a small area of your skin will be tested first to insure your skin won't have a rare side effect to it, but you should be okay, I'm currently trying organic facial products which only contain natural ingredients and I'm also going to see a chinese herbalist to see what they recommend as they tend to try and deal with the cause of the acne, good luck!
i highly don't recommend a laser treatment for acne. The results vary from people to people and not to mention it is very risky. Just wash your face frequently with acne medications like proactiv.

Anyone try the ace wrist splints for carpal tunnel?

Or any wrist splint? Did it help you get some relief?
Do i wear them only at bedtime?
Answer:
I tried a wrist splint... I bought it at WalMart and it made it so my wrist couldn't bend... I wore it pretty much constantly for about two weeks and it helped a lot. My wrist still gets a little soar but it's much better and a lot cheaper than getting surgery... Good Luck!
I wear one most of the time and it feels better. I don't care who see's it or what I'm wearing. I wear it.
I have carpel tunnel in both wrists. A neurologist told me to wear the wrist bands (which were the expensive ones with a metal strip in the bands) only at night during sleep for 6 months. It seemes to help but doesn't rid you of the problem. My whole arms hurt that's how bad it is for me...al the way up to my shoulders.I won't have surgery as I have heard that it sometimes does nothing and I don't want to put myself through the healing process that takes a very long time.
Have it from playing music, have learned not to stress and wear a similar brace now and then and it tends to make it feel better, but don't wear it when you sleep and not all the time.

Anyone tried the new stop smoking tablets?

i have just started them!!!
Answer:
yeah they were a nightmare to light up though to start with
no lol
No, what are they and where did you get them?I'm upto 3 packs a day. I don't think I'll last much longer at this rate.
I was just prescribed them about a week ago, but I havent started yet. I would love to hear how they work for you.
If you have time, let me know!helicopterjen@yahoo.com
Hi firstly well done for doing this, I could not have the tablets as i could not cope with the side effects, nausea. So i am giving the patches another go. E mail me if you would like some support. Have a star for being brave.
No I have had patches and chewing gum. Think I might try and start the gum tomorrow again. How are you finding the tablets?
Tablets going up in smoke! That is new to me. lol
I bought the new commit lozenges and have finally been able to quit smoking after 30 years. I have tried hypnosis, patches, and gum. I'm certain I couldn't have done it without the lozenges. RELIEF...I feel like I have lost a ball and chain. Good luck to you!!

Anyone taking Adderall and what is your dose?

I've been on Ritalin before and like Adderall much better. My doctor will only prescribe me 30mg. once daily. Believe me, I am the most hyper idiot without it, and I go to school from 8am - 9pm. The dr. told me I can't take more than 30mg. a day. Is this true? I had to take my ritalin 4 times daily..
Answer:
I dont want to give you a bad answer and something happens to you. I also have adderall 30mg...the reason why they tell you never to take more than that is because people are dying from adderall. I have had WAAAAY more than 30mg's in a day. I have actually had way over 100. That doesnt mean your body can take it. You know your body better than anyone else. I have to take 3... 30mgs just to start out with but i have been on it for a while and when i was younger i was dumb and abused it. Now it sucks because my tolorance is way to high. You should try adderall xr and see if it works better. I didnt like it but you might because it lasts longer. Or in the middle of the day when you feel you are crashing off your adderall take another. Experament with it but dont go crazy

Anyone out there..endure chemo? If so...just a question..thanks?

Dad starts chemo next Tuesday...preparing a grocery list.. What can a person on chemo...stomache?.. I was going to get all types of juices...etc... but someone said that makes one sick on chemo... and to buy ensure...or boost... Anyone out there gone throug chemo...and can give me some advice.?
Thanks, Christine
Answer:
I started treatment for lung cancer nine months ago-radiation and chemo together at first- now just chemo. There are so many different chemo drugs and different reactions to them. I have been very lucky so far- no vomiting, very little weight loss. The whole thing has been much better then I expected it to be. I have gotten the best help from the nurses giving the treatments, they deal with side affects every day. I eat almost everything that I ate before most of the time, some days I am just not hungry, on those days I eat soup, crackers, juice or boost. I drink the boost very cold, thru a straw-it helps. I wish I could help you more, this is going to be a day to day thing for your Dad and for you. Fatigue has been my worst problem- there is medication for that and it helps alot. I hope your Dad is also lucky, God Bless.
my mom went through chemo 7 years ago and she just ended up drinking a lot of pedialyte because she couldn't stomach much of anything. they have a new drug now that is supposed to help with appetite and keeping things down during chemo, no idea what it's called, but he should ask his doctor if he should/can take it. i hope everything goes well for him.
There is a newer pill called Ondasatron (No sure spelling is right) but it works really, really, really, well. Everyone is different in how they react to chemo. Puddings are another good option, soups that are not to salty or creamed are good choices. Ice cream, Popsicles, Gatorade type drinks, arrowroot cookies, anything that isn't to greasy, spicy are good choices. Good luck.
After each chemo treatment I am unable to drink/eat anything that is cooler then room temperature for the first 4 - 5 days. My throat constricts and I have trouble breathing. See if you can find out the listed side effects of the drugs your dad will be taking as all of them are different. My appetite is usually pretty non existent for the first couple of days and what I am interested in changes each time. You may want to hold off stocking the fridge/cupboards and see if he craves anything. The anti nausea drugs work wonders.
Smells will make most cancer pts sick to the stomach. I have to eat most of my foods refridgerator cold. Some things I can handle at room temp, but def never hot food right off the stove. Also, check about diets for neutropnia. Some times the chemo will kill the white blood cells making it difficult to fight infection. It is called neutropenia when the white blood cells are below a certain level. During this time you cant eat raw fruits or veggies and extra care needs to be taken when preparing for food. If this is the case the doc should know and will explain this thoroughly, but it never hurts to ask.As far things like boost and the like, I cant stand them. The docs and nurses and nutrional therapists try their hardest to get it down my throat but itsnasty and makes me sick. The closest to that i could handle was gatorade. Juices are good to drink if he can stomach them. And really you could a zillion diff answers on here. It's gonna be a process of trial and error. Some things work for certain ppl and not others. Or some things will work this time but next time won't. I also suggest not serving many favorite foods. Often foods dont have their normal taste because the chemo can effect taste buds. Also, if he gets sick after eating a favorite food it can cause taste aversion. I learned that one the hard way.

Anyone Out there with MSUD?

I have 2 children ages 1 and 5, who both have MSUD. I'd like to hear from some folks who have it or whose kids have it. Its so rare, its difficult to share stories and ideas. Thanks.
Answer:
Treatment involves a protein-free diet. During a flare up, fluids, sugars, and fats are given by IV. Peritoneal dialysis or hemodialysis are used to reduce the level of amino acids.
A special diet free of branched-chain amino acids is started immediately.
Long term treatment requires a special diet. The diet includes a synthetic infant formula with low levels of the amino acids leucine, isoleucine, and valine. Persons with this condition must remain on this diet permanently. It is very important to always stick to this diet to prevent neurological damage. This requires frequent blood tests and close supervision by a registered dietitian and a physician, as well as parental cooperation.
Please see the web pages for more details on Maple syrup urine disease (MSUD)
This is a very rare disease and I am sorry that your children have it. I have found web sites that have stories about other children and grown up that have this.

Anyone out there with compassion.?

My brother lives in France and has prostate cancer, he has had it out, but the PSA just keeps rising not much but going up, it is now 3.6. he has been told he will have chemo and the scans are in preparartion for that. How can the PSA levels go up when there is no prostate? Now today they have found it has gone to the liver, the bones are still OK.I am very worried, Daaddy died of leukaemia just three months after we married in 1967, My mother died of pancreatic cancer in Octoebr 2005 and now Chris. he is 63.I do have faith, but very scared.Any compassionate words that would help welcome and prayers.Thank you G
Answer:
Well i certainly feel for you , and will pray for you and yours, your bound ot be scared as you already knw its life changing for all involved faith is all well and good , and you always need something at times like this ,but often i wanted my faith to provide major miracles, when in actual fact ihave come to the conclusion its just to get you through , they will manage fine in the end as the strength in people like this astonishes me in fact encourages me i hope you get to spend some time around your brother ..its fine and normal to be scared the whole roller coaster of emotions you might be feeling now and in the future.
Im not sure what else to say as nothing can make you fell better but i will pray that you get peace that surpasses all understanding ...and im sure you know , but in case you have forgotten where faith in concerned feelings dont count , well what im trying to say is that dont think that cos your feelings are tearin you apart that thats a reflection on your faith as its not you rfaith will walk you through the pain though it wont eliminate it...i dont think i can tellyou anything you dont already know but having walked through this with my best friend though i dont know exactly how your feeling i know it hurts like hell.if you want to email me just to use me as an annoymous sounding board feel free ..mean while i will pray for your family...take care

It is never easy to lose a loved one. My parents died over five years ago, and a day doesn't pass that I don't think of them and miss them. But life and death are what they are, we none of us escape. Enjoy your brother while you can, be sure to tell him you love him and settle any disagreements between you. Who knows, the chemo may work, it has been known to ya know. Keep a positive mind set, don't let the fear in. There is no good reason to fear, it just makes you miserable and doesn't change a thing.
i really feel for you, my mother had cancer in her liver but they cut most of it out and it regrew, dont lose hope!!
I'm sorry to hear about your brother.I lost my dad to cancer a few years ago, and my mum just got over it.Unfortunately it is so common. They say 1 in 3 people will get it at some point in their life. However, treatments are getting better as more research is being done into this awful disease, and a lot of people do get better.Be positive for your brother. At the same time, make some time for yourself - counselling would be good for you i think - i went myself and found it very helpful. One thing i do to make myself feel better is to raise money for the cancer research charity sometimes - it makes me feel like i am at least doing something to remember my dad by and help others and their families.Thinking of you. xx
nobody knows for certain how long we are all here. we are here only temperarily really- enjoy your time you may have left with your brother. i send you the strength to continue xxxx
don't loose hope, and we all, well most of us know god works in strange ways, there has to be a reason to all of your brothers and previous family suffering. keep your head up. that doen't mean it won't hurt, but you have to stay strong for yourself and your family. i'll say a prayer for you all. (huggs)
I'm sorry for your brother. I know what you are feeling since I lost my grandmother today due cancer.
I will answer the easiest part of your question. The PSA level is increasing because the metastasis of prostate cancer are also secreting PSA.
My husband is going through chemo for liver and lung cancer, he refuses to be beaten. *HUGS* for you hunni, I know how you feel. xxxx
I won't beat around the bush. I am truly sorry to hear about your brother, however I might be able to help. I have no idea what PSA is but I know chemo is used on cancer. Garlic has extremely good anti-cancer qualities; something about killing the 'free-radicals' Eat one piece a day for the best results. People don't know about this because business cannot patent a natural plant, so they can't make profit from it. They'd rather sell us fantastically expensive ineffectual medicines that cripple the health service and probably only extend life for a short period. Garlic is cheap, you really have nothing to lose. If he doesn't like garlic, then blend it into a drink.
Of course I will pray for you, it'll go something like this:Dear GOD,
Please help this person's brother recover from prostate cancer, and please help this person from grieving from his/her loss of his/her parents. Please help this person to understand that it's alright to be upset, but to always have faith,
AMENWhatever you do, please always have hope, and if you and other friends pray hard enough, then hopefully your brother can live, I'll help spread the word. You are special, and your brother."Don't give up, don't ever give up." Jimmy V.
i know what its like to lose the ones you love to cancer,it is the most heart breaking thing in the world to watch helplessly, you can only take one day at a time,
be strong when you can,
be weak when you need to be,
take care my thoughts are with you.
I Will Say A Prayer For You %26 Your Family Tonight!
I Hope Everything Goes Well For You!

I am so sorry to hear about your brothers illness. My partner died of lung cancer 14 months ago, I cared for him at home and he died in his bed with us around him. I found strength from somewhere, I prayed a lot and we cried a lot. Its an awful experience but I still feel stronger even now, and learnt so much about dignity and love. I do not want to upset you, but please be strong and go be with him if you can. I will say a little prayer for you. C.
My wife was diagnose with pancreatic neuro-endocrine cancer 2 yrs ago and now has breast cancer and has underwent her first chemo. She will receive a removal and then re-construction surgery after chemo. My wife is 32.
I have nothing but faith in my wife.. I have been scared... all i can offer is my best wishes to you and use the phrase "keep your chin up".Don't waste your days feeling down. Stay positive and look to the future. P.s. any chance of an invite to his 70th??
I have had Cancer for 11 years, it spread from my Kidney to my bones 6 years ago and I am still here...be positive..that is one of the key things...yes he may well die, we all do, but how life is lived until then is the most important thing...so do things..don't spend all your time in Hospitals..he will feel bad during Chemo, but there will be good days, so enjoy them...he lives in a beautiful country with good food and wine so try sampling them...Try not to be full of the compassionate words, there will be time for that...see him, arrange nights out, trips out, holidays away, anything at all, but take the opportunity to do some things he has always wanted to do...I have and now if I am taken I can go happy.so don't despair, that is the worst thing...stand tall and take it on..

Anyone out there experience weight gain from taking Actos for Diabetes?

Hubby has been taking this medication for the past better part of a year and he keeps gaining weight, expecially in midsection..more like a bloating..not like him at all. Will also ask family physician but appointment is a month off yet. A friend had same probem and was treated at John Hopkins and taken off Actos.
Answer:
I gained about 10 pounds over a 4 month period on Actos. My docter switched me to Januvia and now Im losing weight. Actos made me feel bloated and sluggish, I couldnt take it and made my doctor switch me off it.
most antidiabetic agents cause weight gain, usually 5-10 pounds
Yes, I, too, gained weight. I was on metformin but it caused diarrhea so I was changed to actos. I had lost 10 lbs with the metformin, but as soon as I started taking actos, I regained the 10 lbs plus another 10 lbs. I have a new dr. so I am going to ask about changing meds again. Maybe I should go back to metformin, it was better than dieting, LOL.
Everyone on Actos gains weight.
unfortunately weight gain is one of the side effects of actos.
i took actos and i took advandia both caused weight gain it due to water retention i do believe although i had an endocronologist (asshole) tell me the only way to gain weight was to eat more food than your body needs. he wouldn't even listen to me that i didn't eat all that much compared to what i used to eat i'm practically starving myself. any way when i left i felt like an inch tall.

Anyone out there ever diagnosed with IgA Deficiency?

The last year I've been getting quite a few upper respiratory infections like bronchitis, strep pneumonia, sinus infections. Otherwise, I am always healthy. After another bought with a sinus infection my doc ran an immunoglobulin panel and found my IgA level to be 30. Normal is like 81-463. Apparently, IgA is found in the mucuos membranes and protects us from all these upper respiratory infections. All of my other immunoglobulin numbers were normal but the IgA. He said don't lose sleep over it. It's a mild condition...I may get sick more often and be on antibiotics more often but nothing life threatening. He's sending me to an immunologist to confirm this and discuss how I can boost my IgA. I'm 31 with a toddler and really scared. Does anyone have this or know anyone else that does? I feel very nervous but at the same time grateful it's not something worse.
Answer:
The best way to treat IGA Deficiency these days is Xolair. One a month injection that will get your levels back to normal. It is expensive thought. Otherwise allergists will give you shots for many years with little results. Xolair is a godsend for many people. Some insurance will cover it these days.

Anyone on prescribed acne medicine?

I just started minocycline, loma lux acne pill, epionce face wash and sodium sulfacetamide and sulfur lotion...has anyone ever used any of these medicines?
if so... what do you think of them?
Answer:
I used monotrycycline in oral form, and since you had to drink a gallon of water with it , I came up short on the water and passed out after urinating. All the topical medication I used only made my face unnaturally oily and shiny, and had warnings to stay out of the sun
I do,they work great.

Anyone on here diagnosed with osteoarthritis? Any tips on how to manage this.?? I have it in every joint.?

I hurt in every joint and I will continue to pray for healing. I still believe in miracles%26gt; But God expects me to help myself too. Anyone on here know anything to do or to eat to help this or if there are things that aggravate it?? ANy help I would surely appreciate. Thanks
Answer:
Shirley my experience with this disease is you must keep your weight down , your blood pressure under control and stay active. You must exercise or walk daily to strengthen your muscles and joints. Just daily living is not enough. You must get out and walk a mile or more each day or so. Weight must come off..down to a healthy weight by age and height etc.Stay away from all Sugars and caffeine, fatty foods. Believe it or not any SUGAR is really bad and will promote pain in your body Drank water to flush out waste from your system. Keep stress levels down helps.Exercise and reading the Bible help with this by building your faith in Him. And pray that God reveals to you more healthy tips for living a quality of life with less pain. Thank God this life is but a vapor compared to eternity with Him.
My mother has... you have to keep making your life normal!! Don麓t stop to do anything because of it!! Avoid red meat and too much cheese!! and look for medicines that don麓t make u fat!
I have and I take naprasen for it. the weather seams to play a huge role in the pain. watch out because I also developed fibromyalgia with this.
i think the cornerstone beside the medications is to loss weight and avoid severe excercise but light excercise is helpful especially swimming
My wife has osteoarthritis and it is cruel but there are things you can do.
Take calcium tablets, omega 3, Glacomine and evening primrose tablets. At most chemist or vitamin shops
Lower your acid food intake like tomatoes etc
And i have been told by doctors that the joints must be exercised to stop them going stiff i know it hurts but it must be done
but the best is to keep your spirit up and don`t let your self become depressed as this will only make things worse
OA commonly referred to as degenerative joint disease.
keep your joints moving. a common myth with DJD is that my wrist hurts i should not move it which in turn causes more capsular tightness and stiffness. i would recommend visiting a physical therapist and have them put you on a full body exercise routine for strengthening and flexibility.
it is proven a strong flexible mm will perceive less pain than a weak flexible mm. i know DJD affects the cartilage in the joints rather than directly affecting the mm. but as a DPT i see life changing results with proper exercise and staying active. god will not fix or cure this problem by you laying on the couch. good luck
Dear friend, God will carry you through this one sister! My husband typically advises his patients the home remedies over taking more aggressive forms of pain relief for aching joints:1. Moderate your intake, but do not limit yourself from any particular food (ie. meat, chicken, fish). Lower your caloric portions per meal and instead eat multiple smaller meals during the day, so that you will not get the bloated feeling of overeating for one meal (leaving you sedentary... off to next point).
2. Exercise regularly, with frequent walking trips around the neighborhood. Having a walking partner helps get one motivated to do this daily. Heavy aerobic exercise like jogging not necessary, and in fact will aggravate your joints more.
3. Alternate heat compresses and cold packs at end of the day, is a nice bedtime activity prior to sleeping. Some light massage of joints is essential to move fluid between joints.
4. Use of NSAIDs is applicable - please see consultation with your family doctor for appropriate doses.
5. Use of natural remedies such as Glucosamine/Chondroitin supplements is a healthy alternative to NSAIDs, and is easier to metabolize, for the sake of your stomach and vital organs such as your liver.Aboveall, keep in touch with your MD and see if he can suggest a unique diet and exercise regimen for you, in addition to any prescription medication. Not sure if I helped any. I will by praying for you sister! God is good, He knows your needs!God Bless always!
My wife and I are in the process or dealing with this same issue, (we got weight probs) and we are trying a new diet, and prayer. Shirley prayer seems to be effective but it does require much these days, and I would also recommend some Ibuprophine if you can take it.Ibuprophine is a good med, you have to take it regularly and maintain it, you see Ibuprophine has to build up in the body to be useful. In some people, it acts fast, in me I have to keep up a dosage on a regular basis (aprox 600 mgs 3 times a day sometimes 400 mgs). but keep in mind I'm 47 and I weigh 340 lbs. You have to take this much med's with food so as not to upset your stomach. And move around as much as you can.Remember Paul told Timmothy to "take a little wine for your stomach" I am sure that Paul advocated prayer as well, but he was not one to turn down the medicinal use of Gods given substances for illness when possible. I hope this answer helps and run my advise by your Dr. as well
you may need another type of med to moderate you pain as we are all unique. Bonnie and I will pray for you as well.God Bless Sisal 4 now B
I dnt know about that,BUT I WILL PRAY FOR YOU SISTER!!God bless you.
First of all in the full gospel teaching, arthritis is said to be a spirit of resentment before you send me back an answer search your heart and seek the Lord and see if there is anyone or anything that you're resenting. Some times we don't know about these things, but the Lord will show you.then ask for forgiveness and you will be set free.
Ms.Shirley,
In everything we are facing, keep on hanging our faith.BELIEVE,and our prayer itself is enough for the LORD to hear us ,he already knows our needs before we ask.
He is in control of everything if we already surrender our life to HIM.
He caN make MIRACLES %26WONDERS!
I believe the LORD WILL NOT LEAVE YOU NOR FORSAKE YOU.
I"ll keep you %26 your family in my prayer.

Heat and massage help a lot. Pace yourself and try not to wear yourself out. Lately I have been forcing myself to lay down in the afternoon for a half an hour. It helps a lot. After resting I can get up and keep going for several hours. My Brother-in-law swears by the Glucosamine pills. They didn't help me at all but, they have helped him keep going for the past few years.Take Care. I hope I have given you some helpful advice.
Hi Sister... got both OA and RA I stay in the ouch and tired mode much of the time.
#1 hydrate, I keep a case of Sam' Choice water and use the Crystal Lite single serving for taste if not just plain lemon juice for flavor.
I have tried so many meds due to a car accident when I was 16, and another a year ago this past Feb. which has caused Neurological issues to worsen in my joints caused by broke neck in the first and wear and tare on the joints due to sports when I was in school.
The only thing I use now is the old antidepressant Elavil at night to sleep for pain and drink water. On occasion I will take a Tramadal when I get a migraine... O my do you get the migraines? Horrible!
Orange juice helps the inflammation.
Tomatoes...any way shape or form... will cause the inflammation to accelerate, have you considered what all has tomatoes in or on it?
Cut back on the sweets, anything we have even cancer in the body feeds off sugar, white poison.
I sure hope this helps, God bless you%26lt;%26gt;%26lt;
I am alergic to shellfish which is in the products used for this over the counter.
And I agree with the person who has said this is a spirit.
Dear ShirleyI pray the Lord will release His healing power upon you and within your joints. May the Spirit of God manifest mightily and invade these joints and release the pain for nothing is impossible for Him who created the universe and everything in it and He knows your faith! Bless you and praise the Lord ever more!
Love Jacqui
yes my mom has it and i have to give her aleve and narcotic pain pills to control it. i know u are suffering but there is stuff out there over the counter called NSAIDS like aleve and that will work for short period of time and try ibuprofen. if u arent having any relief talk to your doctor and see what they can prescribe. dairy aggravates the problem and so does caffeine. so try to avoid this. also if it rains or is gloomy outside it aggravates the problem more. try and take care and keep up the prayers and we will pray for u also. god bless u...

Anyone love beer?

I just started drinking beer at 50 and just LOVE the soothing way it goes down and the fact that it is a social drink and I can just sip on it and not get drunk. It fills me up enough but gets my appetite going so it has been a healthy substitute for wine at dinner... I would be too thirsty with the wine so I would keep drinking it and it wrecked my next day. Anyone else have a real love for beer without the need for getting drunk?
Answer:
Absolutely. You don't say what brands you've tried, but Brooklyn Lager is the best lager I've ever had; almost as hoppy as an India Pale Ale but without the extreme dryness of an IPA. Review: http://www.united-nations-of-beer.com/br...I can also recommend a super beer from Quebec, if you like ginger! Boreale Blanche (nice polar bear on the label too...). It's light-tasting with lovely spicy tones, including ginger. http://www.united-nations-of-beer.com/bo...The truth is, the world of beer is just as broad and interesting as that of wine. Finally consumers are realising that the likes of Coors and Bud are NOT what beer is all about. Microbreweries are growing in number and popularity.Check out a beer festival in your area and try a myriad of flavours in one place -- you will be truly awestruck by what's out there. And more power to you for sharing this insight. It's a shame so many people buy what's biggest and cheapest and never go beyond that spectrum of bland, well-marketed stuff.
I do, as long as its real beer and not Bud light or anything else in a can for that matter.
no
I most certainly do. I really love the taste and the slight buzz it gives me while I'm winding down after work! I'm drinking one now as a matter of fact.
beer is sick and wrong
Definitely agree with your statement...I started drinking beer about 18 months ago and LOVE it!
There's nothing like rewarding yourself after a hard day's work with a nice cold one! For some reason, I always enjoy drinking a beer outside more than when I'm indoors.
I love beer!! I started drinking beer when I was about 2years old! I was finishing my dad's bottles when he wasn't looking, lol!
What does beer have to do with Respiratory Disease?

Anyone knows the name of this chronic kidney disease?

the doctor told me that my kidneys has bubbles that grow both inside and out. and he also told me that this is generic. anyone knows what's the name for it?
Answer:
It is most likely Adult Polycystic Kidney Disease. This is an inherited diesease (genetic, not generic) where cysts (like small bubbles) form in the kidneys.

Anyone knows how to cure food allergy?

I ate crabs last night when i woke up this morning im breaking up all over my face and body
Answer:
actually, I would suggest getting in to see your family Dr. about it..if you have one, and have good insurance...then go. crab is a shell fish..and if you're reacting to shell fish then it can mean even more than just a food allergy, which your Dr. can explain. But, for sure.dont eat any more shell fish until you DO speak with your Dr.
I don't think you can cure an allergy. Go see an allertist and he/she can pinpoint that it is indeed the crab that bothered you. Also, you can find out if you are allergic to other seafoods, so you can know what is safe for you to eat. Don't mess around with food allergies. They can become dangerous.
You can't cure food allergies, you simply grow out of them or you don't. But if you ate something and reacted negatively to it, then you need to see a doctor as soon as possible to get some allergy medication! Food allergies can be really serious and should be treated right away.
Food allergies are a broad subject - that can in some cases be cured. From the information you have given, it is possible that you have a reaction to crabs - but they are dirty creatures and certainly not good for food. If you want your reaction to go away and not worsen, 1 Tablespoon Activated Charcoal (Not fire charcoal - available at chemists) with 2 glasses of water. Drink plenty of water. From me a Lifestyle Counselor.
I don't think they can be cured. Call your doctor and ask him/her if it's okay for you to take over the counter Benadryl...that helps lessen the severity of your symptoms. I have an allergy to nuts and I avoid them, but when I have accidentally eaten something with nuts in it, I go to the ER and they usually give me Benadryl in an IV...when they send me home, they tell me to get Benadryl over the counter to help the symptoms. Other than Benadryl, the only thing I know to help food allergies is just to avoid whatever you're allergic to. Hope this helps.
To make the symptoms go away, take allergy medication and drink a lot of water to get the harmful substances out of your system.
Get a test from a doctor - it was not necessarily the crabs that caused your condition. They may have contained preservatives, artificial flavors or food colorings you might be allergic to.If it is the crabs: As far as I know, there is no allergy desensitization available for food allergies.
Of course there is alternative therapy which is not generally approved or accepted by the scientific view, for example from traditional Chinese medicine, acupuncture etc., but everyone has to decide for themselves what to make of those.
Stay away from crabs, you are probably allergic to them. You can always be tested by an allergist to confirm this. You should always carry Benadryl with you just in case you have this problem again.

Anyone know why elderly people get RED SKIN on their legs?

my husbands grandma showed us her legs today and from the calf down to her ankles, they are red and tender, and pretty blotchy
shes waiting for a specialist appointment, she also has diabetes, has this got anything to do with it,
does anyone have any idea what it is and why?, thanks
shes 82
Answer:
older people can have circulation problems and broken capilleries that can cause redness but the fact that she has diabetes is probably the main reason for this, also mainly on the legs if she is inactive and not moving around a lot.
Has she been taking new medication? This happened to my mother in law but she had it all over her body. It was due to over dosing by the doctors.
They gave her the wrong amount mg to take.Or it could be Psoriasis.Good luck!
They are spider and varicose veins.

Anyone know who the best cosmetic surgeon is in Las Vegas for the least money? Or even Phoenix.?

I had gastric bypass surgery in 2002 and lost 231# and really want to get my neck, boobs, upper arms and inner thighs done.
Answer:
Breast implant surgery is very safe nowadays. My cousin got her breast reduction, tummy tuck and facelift surgery in India by the company called Tour2india4health Consultants .The Price for the surgery she paid in India was very less. She paid 30% of the cost she was quoted in America.Tour2india4health Consultants is very famous in India. They arrange cosmetic and plastic surgery for foreigners in India. I read a lot about them in the Newspapers and about their patient stories. They arrange financing for USA, Canadian, UK and other international patients who plan to have surgery abroad for low price, as the breast reduction, tummy tuck, facelift and other cosmetic surgery is not covered by insurance. They also have photos pasted of their International patients. You can checkout their website. There are huge cost savings. As a doctor I personally believe that surgery can be easily handled in India, as the quality of healthcare available In India is simply best in the world. The surgeons are USA/UK trained and facilities are 5 star.http://www.tour2india4health.com...
Hope this helps.
I live in Phoenix and don't know who is best, but make sure you find someone who is board certified for plastic and reconstructive surgery and specializes in plastic surgery. Plastic Surgery doesn't have the same rules as other types of medicine and make sure your surgery is done in a hospital or outpatient facility. Make sure they have years of training and experience in plastic surgery.
