My daughter is 5 and is allergic to dairy. She has been having soy milk and soy yoghurt for about 3 years. She has slight breast budding which is called thelarche. It is a benign condition caused by the leftover oestogen from my breast milk.(that's what the doctor told me). I stopped the soy milk for a few months and the thelarche was practically gone. I reintroduced the soy and it has started to return on one side. Also my daughter's behaviour became intolerable, just like a moody teenager. I realised it could be linked to the soy, so I stopped it at once. My daughter is much more settled and I am just waiting to see if her thelarche goes away too. I'm wondering if the phytoestrogens in the soy milk are responsible. Has anyone else encountered problems like this from using soy milk or soy products??
Answer:
Despite the many benefits of soy that people are always screaming about, you should know that soy is one of the most recent food products in our dietary history. In other words, not everyone has totally adapted to digesting soy and soy products. The Chinese are probably the most adapted with soy, but even they can still be allergic to it. There's also growing evidence that soy and soy products can increase a body's naturally available estrogen; weight lifters tend to avoid soy products for exactly that reason. For growing young women who are experiencing a rush of hormones, it's probably not a good idea to add additional ones.I tend to keep my soy products to a minimum, sticking with just edamame (soy beans in the shell) once or twice a week. For a good sources of calcium try shrimp, sesame seeds, spinach, rice milk, calcium fortified orange juice (some can have as much as a cup of milk), and even calcium supplements.
I used to love soy milk a lot, and I drank it so much that evewntually it started to give me horrible allergy. Only soy milk, though (not yogurt or tofu). Every time I have soy milk (even in juice or in tea), my throat would get so itchy and I will loose my voice, I will have to clear my throat constantly - disgusting! I think it's because I had too much soy milk.
Now, what your daughter is having might be just an allergic reaction. Children can develop allergies to any product, especially soy or nuts. If she just eats soy products (not soy supplements for women), there is not enough hormones (phytoestrogens) to cause hormonal reaction. If it was so, menopausal women would be treated by soy milk and yogurt, but they cannot. Phytoestrogens are derived from soy and put in supplement form very concentrated (you would need to eat pounds upon pounds of soy to get same amount of phytoestrogens as in a single pill). Just avoid giving soy to your daughter. She is 5, so allergies to dairy and to soy should not be your biggest problem, as it would have been if she was younger. Just feed her fruit, veggies, meat, eggs - anything she is not allergic to.
Soy is one of the most common allergens. Children who are exposed to soy often while they are very young have a higher chance of developing an allergy to soy products. I know this from research, and personal experience.Short story of my daughter's allergy - I nursed her until she was about 5 months old and was told to stop by several doctors because she was having digestive problems and they wanted to put her on a specialized formula called Pregestimil. She was on that for awhile and then my pediatrician suggested that I put her on soy formula. After she was done with the bottle, we moved on to soy milk and she drank that for about 2 1/2 years until she started having allergy symptoms. She is now 4 and allergic to many different foods, soy being one of them.I would suggest that you take her in to an allergist to have her tested - not only for soy but for the other top allergens. Children who are allergic to soy are also commonly allergic to other things, the major one being peanuts. You need to be very careful and vigilant about food allergies, they can be extremely serious (sometimes deadly). Here's a snippet from the first website about the soy-peanut allergy link:"Even more intriguing, Lack says, is the fact that children with peanut sensitivity were significantly more likely to have been fed a soy-based formula or milk. Overall, 8.3 percent of the infants had consumed such products. Among those with peanut allergy, the rate was 24.5 percent. Indeed, the researchers observe, "of the 10 children for whom data on the first consumption of soy milk or soy formula were available, 9 had consumed soy before reacting to peanuts."

Anyone else dreading the smoking ban?
especially in london the weather is so crap and going outside for a ciggie means drowning in the rain!
Answer:
I feel it is going to do me a big favour..
I apreciate the health risks for the non smoker really i do and its going to be great for them.
But are they going to ban drinking in pubs or introduce ration books now as drinking abuse is on the increase there is nothing worse than being confronted by someone out of there tree unreasonable that start on innocent people for no reason.Or worst still become phsical.
absolutely. hop my local will have a covered area built
no i cant wait. ban smoking altogether. they can kill em selves but why do they have to kill me?
i hate the smell of smoke on my clothes down the pub so it will make a nice change! bring on the ban. i would be pretty pissed off if i was a smoker though!
the rain will dampen your ciggie
I stopped 2 days ago - but am dreading listening to everyone whinging about standing outside in the rain! I'll probably start again just to show solidarity!!!
not at all i stopped 11 days ago now so it be helpin me :O)
We have to suffer for our art. (it's like December here, dark and raining)
what about us scots it should of happened to u last year but we have good weather in scotland so were ok
Big brother is watching you! If the government had banned smoking full stop then I would be in a more positive frame of mind. However they are making criminals out of normal people and still taking there tax cut.
I heard this morning on the radio that if you are to have a visitor to your house from say the council or a deliver from a store you need to not have smoked a cig for over an hour and a half or they can refuse to enter the house.
At the same time we have troops dieing every day in Iraq, children murdered on our street and bombs being planted in our cities.
Isn't there an irony that all these questions go into "Respiratory Diseases"Doesn't that, in itself, tell you something?
I do not smoke so haha
yup totally i wont be eating out or drinking until the weather has improved enough
No i can't wait for it, should have been done years ago.
REMEMBERYou are not allowed to take your drink outside if it's in a residentual area.So there's another recepie for disaster with getting your drinkes spiked when you're out having a smoke.
not really i will just stay at home and save money and have guests round for fun and drinks
yep.. and no.. as long as they don't ban smoking in MY car..lol
wouldn't suprise me... nanny state..and none smokers , u might think posting silly comments on here is great fun.. but less people smoking = more stealth taxes.. perhaps that might take u off your higher moral ground..it'd have less impact on me if they banned drinking.. give it a few years..loland yer if u are in rented places u have to not smoke for 30 minutes / 1 hour.. as they are prolly afraid of getting sued 10 years down the line.
On the contrary, I cant wait. I was living in Dublin when they brought in the ban over there and I can honestly say, the quality of pubs improved overnight. Its so nice to go out for a drink and not go home stinking of filthy cig smoke (lol, it wont let me write the word f@g). It gets in your clothes and in your hair and we all know the damage it does to your insides. It cant come soon enough
Why dread it?Why not simply stop smoking? It makes you smell terrible, it looks cheap, costs you thousands of pounds every year and destroys your body untill you die.
There is not one reason on this earth to smoke, so stop now, use this ban as a reason to stop because it's never ever going to go away no matter who runs this country. You will look better, feel better and probably live long enough to see your children grow up, get married and have a good life with you in it.Now, isn't that a good enough reason on it's own?.........Note to jungle jungle, Stealth taxes? Bring 'em on.I will happily pay 拢1000 a year so i don't have to sit in a pub/bar/restaurant and then die because i had to breathe in your smoke.I have absolutely no problem with other people smoking as long as i don't have to smell it or breathe it in, i think most non-smokers wouldn't too.If smokers had been more considerate in the first place and went outside where possible there wouldn't be this ban.
The Government has brought it in because the majority of this country don't smoke, they don't want it in our lungs and it seems the only way we can get this to happen is to have it banned.I
Not me, at last I will be able to go into a bar withour choking on the second hand smoke.
I'm truly all for it.I'd rather you went outside to poison yourself so that I can breathe clean air inside my favourite pubs/restaurants for once.I love getting back after a night out and realising that my clothes and hair don't reek of cigarrettes!
Besides it may deter people from smoking. It may even put people off from starting to smoke in the first place. The smokers who are protesting this are just plain selfish! They say things like "I have a right to smoke inside"... What about my right to breathe non-carcinogenic air? If they then say that I could step outside, I then retort with "so I should suffer for your habit? that's not very fair, is it?"
i'm so fed up of hearin about thins bloody smokin ban..prob coz i'm peed off with it, i must smoke 8 cigz a month if that so its not a case of how will i cope coz i can liv without, but i like the odd cig in a pub with a mate n a drink n i wont be able tooo..the cheek of it. designated areas i say.. you enjoy your cig mate, av 1 4 me. hahahahah who cares about the health issues..my mate was the most healthiest man ever, organic, excerised..didnt smoke or sunbathe n e died of cancer so...i dunno..i'm babblin on now..c u sweet. x
I'm a smoker
but I'm used to smoking outside
the only one i would be is the nightclubs
as when i drink i love to have my ciggy...
i dont go out clubbing alot though so i probably wont even notice it...
there is one thing i hope they do stop in the nightclubs, and that is the smoke they blow out onto the dance floor...to me that is bad for every-body's health.
but also people who dont smoke! dont realise that there is car fumes out there that we breathe, that is alot worse then a ciggy if you ask me.but yet they will happily travel in their cars in front and behind people... let alone stand around a fuel station to put fuel in the car.
sorry just had to have my say.
Yeah. I don't mind being shoved into a special room but am not looking forward to having to smoke outside with all the do gooders looking on disapprovingly.I'm sick of judgemental society where we are all supposed to conform. Where has the freedom of choice gone ? How dull when we are allowed no individualism and are all required to live by a certain set of rules deemed "appropriate"
Well, it won't stop me smoking.
I'm just worried that been outside is some sort of scam to make us more exposed to the anti smokers therefore making us an easy target to round us all up and cart us all off to a seperate island in order to protect the non smokers.
Although I appreciate the smoking bans (many US states and cities on my side of the pond have them) since I have asthma and allergies, I don't like the principle they are based on.I personally believe that all restaurants/pubs/bars should have a right to determine if they will allow smoking. In the past few years, a lot of restaurants have looked at consumer preferences, and have made the premises entirely non-smoking, without interference or threats from the local government. And yes, it's horrible that a city with weather like London's is going to force smokers to go outside. However, I guess one could be glad that it's nothing like going outside in Indianapolis (doesn't get above 0C for a month or two, winds howl and often make wind chills below the -15C mark, and summers are above 30C and humid as all holy hell). The city itself just passed a smoking ban, and its suburban districts intend to follow soon.
It's already here in Wales I'm a smoker and as there is no smoking in pubs I tend not to smoke as much or miss it
yes I enjoy a cigar with a pint not outside though, also a ciggie with a pint with a good conversation, so I`ll not enjoy it as much now.
NO WAY!! i cant wait!! if you wanna kill yourselves go ahead, just let the rest of us live our lives xxx
Not in d least but i do feel 4 smokers though

Anyone else deal with chronic hives?
I have had hives all over my body for about the past year and a half. Somedays they aren't there but most days they are. I've been to an allergist and she could find anything I'n allergic to, I've also been to a dermatologist and he could find anything either, my regular family doctor has no answers either. I've been trying to keep journals to see if i can pin point what triggers the hives but there is no pattern that I can find. Anybody have any suggestions?
Answer:
One of my friends is going through this right now. Here's what he's trying to eliminate now (and keep in mind that sometimes it can take a week or more of being away from the allergen for the hives to go away):-clothing fibers.
-shampoo, conditioner, soap, hair gel, lotion, razors and shaving cream
-local pollen/pollutants
-piercings
-chemicals in the local water
-food additives (like dye and artificial flavors)Also, chart your hives in relation to your period. If they're aggravated by stress, they might be caused by irregular hormones? And are you taking anything for your hives? Like Benadryl, or even soaking in cold water? I only get hives once every couple months these days, and I can't imagine going for a year and a half like that. :(
I get hives when I am stressed out, not all over, but I will get a big hive somewhere on my face from nerves. In college I got them from my knees up all over a couple of times from exam stress. i also get them from chocolate or if I drink too much coffee.
I take Zyrtec, an allergy medication. I'm suprised your allergist didn't find anything wrong with you.
my sister had that to! i cant remember what was wrong with her but the doctor had her take an antibiotic and we put an itching spray on it every night and the went away eventually.
i cant remember what caused it tho sorry!
Have you gone through a check list of what might be the cause of your hives? Do you have any pets? What detergent or softener do you use? Are you on medications? Have you checked for any black mold in your home? (Check the ceiling, bathrooms, basement if you have one, water heater area...anywhere where moisture is accumulating.)
The other thing I would check is your diet. Perhaps their is a food allergy that you may not be aware of. (Anyone can suddenly be allergic to a food they never had allergic reactions to in the past) One idea is you could just clean out your body and commit to doing a Vegan Diet for 3 months and see if your hives go away. (It's a no dairy, no meat, no oils in your diet. Sounds dramatic and distasteful but truthfully I was quite impressed with the casseroles and recipes that had awesome taste and for me... it's all about how good it tastes!)
I tried the Vegan thing since the dermatologist and physician couldn't find the source of my allergic reaction that I dealt with several months. So out of frustration I completely changed my diet to Vegan for 3 months and my problem went away. (My skin also looked incredible!) Don't give up on finding out why your getting hives, your body is trying to tell you something is wrong so if your primary physician can't find out what it is ask for a referral to a specialist. Hope this helps.
Have you been tested for food allergies? My allergist says that chronic hives are almost always a result of food allergies. It's a simple blood test and they can test you for a variety of foods. Usually you're allergic to the food you eat most often.
I,too, deal with chronic hives. Mine have all been attributed to an allergic reaction of some sort. I have broke out in hives during stressful situations like important exams or high pressure situations at work. However, there have been three main ingredients that seem to also trigger it for me are soy, niacin, and caffiene. Soybean oil is a fairly common ingredient in a lot of every-day foods. Niacin is in many of the "energy" products in pretty high doses.
I had hives every day for seven years. I had tried everything to get rid of them. I finally went to a Homeopath and she gave me a remedy and I haven't had them since. That was about a year ago.
Are the hives caused by pressure or stoking the skin. If yes, it could be dermatographism. Many doctors are not familiar with this skin condition.

Anyone can give me idea about post operation of fistula?
Answer:
Discomfort after fistula surgery can be mild to moderate for the first week and can be controlled with pain pills. The amount of time lost from work or school is usually minimal.
You don't mention the type of fistula you had, I provided info. for the anal fistula.
Treatment of an abscess or fistula is followed by a period of time at home, when soaking the affected area in warm water (sitz bath) is recommended three or four times a day. Stool softeners may also be recommended. It may be necessary to wear a gauze pad or mini-pad to prevent the drainage from soiling clothes. Bowel movements will not affect healing.
I don't know.. but the word Fistula is downright hilarious. Especially if you capitalize it.
Need to tell me what you want to know about fistulas.
Anyone been through this? Please help! For ladies suffering herpes!!?
Has any ladies still given birth vaginally even though they suffer from genital herpes? or did you have a c-section.I want to give birth vaginally but i am scared i will be having an outbreak and pass it on to my baby.PLEASE HELP!
Answer:
kystik83 is completely correct. My sister has three children and has given birth vaginally despite having genital herpes. Unless you show symptoms at the time of birth you are fine. If you have regular outbreaks they may give you suppressive therapy leading up to the birth to help prevent you having an outbreak. One in four women have genital herpes, so imagine how many give birth naturally to healthy babies every day. Don't worry too much.
I think its best to have a c-section, u will pass it on to the baby
u should talk with ur doctor about this..not ask strangers
I gave birth to 4 healthy babies over the years and never passed it onto them.
I was told by my doctor as long as I was not exhibiting symptoms prior to delivery everything would be OK. You are the only one that can make that decision because you are the only one that can tell if a outbreak is coming. Listen to your body and don't let anyone scare you out of the delivery you want. Talk to your Doctor about your worries. Good luck
you can still deliver vaginally, that is if you are not having an outbreak otherwise you must have a c-section. usually what happens is your doc will give you anti-viral towards the end of your pregnancy to prevent an outbreak

These symptoms are quite common and can be indicative of a range of conditions. It is unacceptable that your GP won't see you for two weeks. I suggest you phone NHS 24 - act as if it is an emercency and you'll get get an appointment at your local hospital quickly.
Go to Urgent care the soonest you can. or to ER even. What were you doing before these signs and symptoms?
It sounds like a normal period but you say the bleeding is abnormal - what does that mean - it's not actually your period time? Take some paracetamol and see you how you feel over the next couple of days.
it sounds like a kidney infection if the blood is in your urine. You will need antibiotics
Do you have a GYN? Call her/him and get into to see them as soon as possible! Or, better yet, talk to the doctor on call for the weekend and see what they suggest. Don't wait 2 wks to see a GP - they don't specialize in GYN issues. If you can't get in to see or talk to a GYN - then you need to go to the ER!Good luck and please take care of this soon!
Go to your nearest NHS Walk-in Centre, you can locate them online( http://www.nhs.uk/servicedirectories/pag... ), or to your nearest A%26E. Don't delay.
Gosh i thought our waiting time in our surgery was bad in your surgery you could be dead before you get to see a doctor
Dont wait go straight to A %26 E there could be something wrong so best to get checked over because your symtoms could get a lot worse so go today and get it sorted
two weeks is too long if you are having bleeding and fatigue and breathlessness - get yourself checked out at an ER - i think you could use an H%26H - hemoglobin and hematocrit.Peace+
i would insist to see a doctor 2 weeks is ridicolous for any body to wait if you are happy to see another doctor see one the sooner the better good luck
If you are having trouble breathing you should seek immediate medical help. Go to A%26E. You should never take chances with your health.
