Anyone else deal with chronic hives?

I have had hives all over my body for about the past year and a half. Somedays they aren't there but most days they are. I've been to an allergist and she could find anything I'n allergic to, I've also been to a dermatologist and he could find anything either, my regular family doctor has no answers either. I've been trying to keep journals to see if i can pin point what triggers the hives but there is no pattern that I can find. Anybody have any suggestions?
Answer:
One of my friends is going through this right now. Here's what he's trying to eliminate now (and keep in mind that sometimes it can take a week or more of being away from the allergen for the hives to go away):-clothing fibers.
-shampoo, conditioner, soap, hair gel, lotion, razors and shaving cream
-local pollen/pollutants
-piercings
-chemicals in the local water
-food additives (like dye and artificial flavors)Also, chart your hives in relation to your period. If they're aggravated by stress, they might be caused by irregular hormones? And are you taking anything for your hives? Like Benadryl, or even soaking in cold water? I only get hives once every couple months these days, and I can't imagine going for a year and a half like that. :(
I get hives when I am stressed out, not all over, but I will get a big hive somewhere on my face from nerves. In college I got them from my knees up all over a couple of times from exam stress. i also get them from chocolate or if I drink too much coffee.
I take Zyrtec, an allergy medication. I'm suprised your allergist didn't find anything wrong with you.
my sister had that to! i cant remember what was wrong with her but the doctor had her take an antibiotic and we put an itching spray on it every night and the went away eventually.
i cant remember what caused it tho sorry!
Have you gone through a check list of what might be the cause of your hives? Do you have any pets? What detergent or softener do you use? Are you on medications? Have you checked for any black mold in your home? (Check the ceiling, bathrooms, basement if you have one, water heater area...anywhere where moisture is accumulating.)
The other thing I would check is your diet. Perhaps their is a food allergy that you may not be aware of. (Anyone can suddenly be allergic to a food they never had allergic reactions to in the past) One idea is you could just clean out your body and commit to doing a Vegan Diet for 3 months and see if your hives go away. (It's a no dairy, no meat, no oils in your diet. Sounds dramatic and distasteful but truthfully I was quite impressed with the casseroles and recipes that had awesome taste and for me... it's all about how good it tastes!)
I tried the Vegan thing since the dermatologist and physician couldn't find the source of my allergic reaction that I dealt with several months. So out of frustration I completely changed my diet to Vegan for 3 months and my problem went away. (My skin also looked incredible!) Don't give up on finding out why your getting hives, your body is trying to tell you something is wrong so if your primary physician can't find out what it is ask for a referral to a specialist. Hope this helps.
Have you been tested for food allergies? My allergist says that chronic hives are almost always a result of food allergies. It's a simple blood test and they can test you for a variety of foods. Usually you're allergic to the food you eat most often.
I,too, deal with chronic hives. Mine have all been attributed to an allergic reaction of some sort. I have broke out in hives during stressful situations like important exams or high pressure situations at work. However, there have been three main ingredients that seem to also trigger it for me are soy, niacin, and caffiene. Soybean oil is a fairly common ingredient in a lot of every-day foods. Niacin is in many of the "energy" products in pretty high doses.
I had hives every day for seven years. I had tried everything to get rid of them. I finally went to a Homeopath and she gave me a remedy and I haven't had them since. That was about a year ago.
Are the hives caused by pressure or stoking the skin. If yes, it could be dermatographism. Many doctors are not familiar with this skin condition.
