Answer:
following a diet for those with diabetes type 2 is the best for fatty liver (nash). have your friend stay away from iron. iron is found in some supplements as well as vitamins and other herbal remedies, meats, egg and some leafy greens as well.
avoid alcohol, lower sodium intake and cut out all sugars and artificial sugars. drink water, tea and coffee-limit caffiene intake if she has a tendency for panic attacks or anxiety issues. a cup of juice is okay as well as fruits and veggies-infact fruit and veggies are easier to digest than any type of meat.limit the use of over the counter meds. have her alert all doctors to her issue so they can, if need be write a prescription that will be less burden for the liver. milk thistle may help. it has anti-inflammatory properties, but as always, with liver disease, ask the doctor first.last but not least, mild exersize three times a week.
Tell her to watch her carbs. Her doctor should of given her a list of foods she should avoid.
See 'Let's Get Well' by Adelle Davis. It has an excellent chapter on the Liver and its diseases.
Fatty infiltration of the liver can be caused by many things. The largest of which is poor diet, alcoholism, high cholesterol and effects from medication. Treatment of the disease means treatment of what caused it for that patient. I see a lot of this with my patients. The good news is that the liver is very resilient. Once the cause of the disease is found in your friend, treatment should be successful. Good luck! =)
